My Journey from Skinny, through Obese to Fitness Industry Professional
My name is Coach Mark Tiffney and I joined the fitness industry primarily in response to the poor quality of information and resources being dished out by those in the industry when I was looking to make personal changes.
I had gone from an ultra-skinny, multi-sports-playing teen to an obese professional Architect. Then through study and research, I found a path to single-digit body fat and a visible six-pack inside a year.
I worked to qualify as a fitness professional soon after, worked with people in my spare time to build my abilities as a coach and quit my job a few years later to follow this path of helping others find their route to success through online coaching, Personal Training, then opening my own 5,000 Sq.ft training facility.
Over the years (along with becoming a father), my focus has matured away from aesthetics and shifted to focus on health, longevity, function, and well-being. And understanding the pressures of professional, as well as family life, along with working with thousands of clients both individually and through my training facility, has helped shape and develop my overall approach to ensure I work with the needs and restraints of others rather than forcing ideals that only add further pressure.

ONE TO ONE COACHING
From 2 decades and well over 1000 clients (plus online interactions with thousands more), it has become abundantly clear that the most significant changes made are done so in the mind and through daily habits beyond the gym floor.
Exercise, whether cardio, callisthenics or strength training, can play a significant role in making changes. And how you fuel your body will have an impact on everything you do. But these are just tools in a much larger picture where if the foundational elements of your mindset, daily habits and approach to the demands of your everyday life (along with well-thought-out strategies and goals) are out of kilter, will have frustratingly poor long-term effects.
Working with a Coach who not only has wide breadth of professional experience but lived experience to draw from and who can take an objective view of your situation, inside a framework that has been proven to work time and again, is absolutely the most productive and beneficial route anyone could consider.
It may not be the ideal solution right now, but few people would not benefit from considering Coaching at some point in their lives.
Mark does not accept all potential clients. But he will respond and advise everyone who submits a request.
All you have to do is complete an online questionnaire. From there, you will receive either emailed advice or an offer of a free one-to-one digital coaching session to set you on your path. If you wish to consider taking things further, with a more long-term commitment, that’s up to you. But the help is there if you need it.
PERSONAL TRAINING
Whilst Coaching is the ideal route to progress, some people are not yet in the mindset to commit to the process.
And if your issues are primarily physical in nature, then Personal Training could be the solution you are looking for.
As such, we are currently offering (in a very limited capacity) Personal Training Sessions in Gartcosh and in specific cases, Cumbernauld.
IN THE WORKS – Group Sessions | Courses | Career Assistance | Financial Boost
Ultimately the goal of this site is to deliver solutions to as many people as possible.
However, being all things to all people, given how unique everyone’s issues and situations are, is extremely difficult.
The information throughout this site should ensure that there is something of use, regardless of your circumstances. But we will always aim to achieve more.
Currently, the following services are in the works. If you are interested in any of these, it would be a good idea to sign up to our newsletter (it is not a bombardment, filled with spam or sales pitches, it just keeps you updated on useful information and you will always be notified before anyone else):
Group Coaching – 8 weeks of group coaching sessions (with follow-ups and out-of-session support). The course will identify specific personal barriers to progress. Obstacles and frustrations. By the end of the course, not only will you have made tangible, measurable progress, but will also have a clear personalised plan for continuing forward on your journey.
If this is something that may be of interest, get in touch now to be added to the list. Courses will only launch once there are 8 registered for one time and venue and will accept no more than 12 for any block.
Courses – The group coaching sessions will be held in person. But that is only suitable if you are based in central Scotland. As such, the plan is to make similar sessions available digitally. This will involve a lot more work, as video resources etc will be required to cover all situations. But this is in the works and will be launched once there is sufficient interest. So, if this is something you’re keen on, get in touch.
Job Hunting & Career Progression – Some of the courses will be tailored with job hunting and careers in mind. Specifically improving interview success rates, increasing productivity (through increased self-belief, focus and energy), improving the immune system (so fewer sick days) and heightening physicality in a manner that has been shown to increase income levels. We are hoping to offer these courses via existing support groups and charitable organisations, and we’ll update you with any links we forge as they occur. But in the meantime, if this is something that is of interest to you, please let us know.
Financial Stressors – Probably the biggest roadblock to improved health and fitness is stress. You cannot overcome the negative effects of overwhelm and stress with a bit of exercise or a diet. In fact, you may be adding to the problem. And financial stress can be one of the most toxic. To combat this, we are developing a separate entity called Boosted Income, which we hope will give the resources needed to alleviate at least some of the stress financial worries can cause. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is simply guidance toward small to medium-income boosts that might be enough, in many cases, to make a positive difference and allow you to focus on yourself rather than your bank balance.
DISCOVERING A SUPPORT GROUP OR COMMUNITY
If you feel that going on this journey alone is not something you are comfortable with and you need the energy and support of others who are in a similar situation to you or have the same drive and goals to keep you motivated, that is completely understandable.
On a local level, that is the main driver for creating the Group Coaching Sessions mentioned above and the more people who show an interest in these, the quicker they will be created.
However, regardless of your location, I’d recommend joining us on our Facebook Page and sign up to our newsletter to access our DCSfit Facebook Group. We have numerous social media platform outlets (including 3 other Facebook pages) with a community of over 10,000 people across all platforms. So regardless of your current situation, there are bound to be others who can empathise.
